Our Lady of the Abandoned Church

The church includes one of the few statues of the Virgin Mary revered as a miracle, which the Pope has recognized. The church itself is a testament to the religious controversy surrounding the early history of Marikina, in which Jesuits and Augustinians fought for control of the local church.

Shoe Museum

The Shoe Museum was established in 1998, with the city being considered the capital of Shields at the time in the Philippines, by the then-mayor, Bayani F. Fernando. The museum was officially opened in 2001 and is known as the Footwear Museum of Marikina. Its purpose was to enhance the historical and cultural significance of the Philippine shoe industry. The museum’s building is historic as it became a Filipino prison cell during the Filipino-American war.

The museum has collections that include the shoes of the first woman, Imelda Marcos, and the shoes of the president, vice-presidents, mayors, chiefs, and other heads of the Philippine government.

It has an Olympic-sized swimming pool, a stadium, 15,000 seats, and a covered gymnasium.
