OCT (Original Certificate of Title)

First title issued for a property registered under Torrens system

Definition

An Original Certificate of Title (OCT) is the first title issued when land is registered under the Torrens system. When the property is sold, the OCT is cancelled and a Transfer Certificate of Title (TCT) is issued to the new owner. OCTs are rare in urban areas as most properties have already been transferred multiple times.
